We are implementing the Words Their Way word study program for phonics and vocabulary instruction. Students will be working on word sorts, tailored to their individual needs. Sorts will include beginning consonants, short and long vowel sounds, blends, etc. Word study involves "doing" things with words - examining, manipulating, comparing and categorizing - and offers the students the opportunity to make their own discoveries about how words work. It is more than a spelling curriculum. It is a developmental approach to phonics, vocabulary, and spelling instruction. |
